Commanda Community Centre
Commanda Community Centre ‘Tis The Season and You’re Invited! Season’s Greetings to all our members of the Commanda Community Centre. This is a busy time of the year for your Centre with a Bazaar and Bake Sale on Sunday (10 AM to 4 PM) December 7, followed by the combined Children's Party and Christmas Dinner on Sunday, December 14. While planning for these two events is well underway, we still need a few volunteers to help out on the actual days of the events and for decorating the hall on Saturday, November 29th (start time 2:00 PM; just show up, it’s always a treat). For the Bazaar and Bake sale on Sunday, December 7, we need at least three more volunteers, for kitchen staffing and for manning the bake table. The organizational stuff is all in place, so it’s a straight six-hour gig. If you wish to pitch in on this event, please call Ron Philips soon at 497-3769 or e-mail him at r.h@cogeco.ca. If you wish to donate baked goods, call Carol Hoffman at 729-5317 or e-mail her at choffman@xplornet.com. The Children's Party on Sunday, December 14 runs from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. There will be crafts and cookies etc for the kids, and Santa will be handing out (free) gifts. A couple of volunteers are required to help supervise the activities. Please call Veronica Uzielli or Peter Simola at 729-2999 or e-mail them at vuzielli@vianet.ca. The community Christmas Dinner on Sunday, December 14 is held immediately following the children's party and should start about 5:30. It is partially pot-luck. The Community Centre provides 2 turkeys (including stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce), a cooked ham, potatoes and rolls. Members and guests are asked to bring such things as crudities, salads, vegetables and desserts. At this point, we need one more volunteer to prepare one large turkey. If you can help out in this regard or have any questions call Dave May at 729-1240 or e-mail him at yukon1@ontera.net . If you are unable help on the 7th or 14th then consider making a contribution to the Bake Sale. To help the on-site volunteers on the morning of the bake sale, you are urged to wrap, mark and price your home baked pie, bread, muffins or cookies etc. ready to be placed on the table for sale. Bring your baked goods to the hall on Sunday, Dec. 7, before 10 am. The doors will be open much earlier. We hope that everyone will be able to attend these upcoming events. These are great opportunities to meet old friends, make new friends and generally hob-nob socially. The members of your Board of Directors look forward to seeing you at the Centre, particularly at this joyous time of the year. Sincerely yours, Dave May (president) PS: Remember, details of all Centre activities can be found on our updated web site at www.commanda.ca.
